District administrations inspect check gates

Dimapur, May 23 (EMN): Following the notification from the Home department about the alleged illegal collection of money at check gates and its directive to close all check gates barring inter-state check gates, district administrations conducted inspections at different locations across the state.

Tuensang: Tuensang district administration led by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Tuensang, Thungchanbemo Tungoe, police personnel, and IPR officials inspected Eshou Gate (NAP Check Post) and Kuthor Road, Tuensang on Monday. At the permitted check gates, detailed inspection and thorough inquiries have been made, and there are no cases of illegal collection of money by anyone at such check gates, an update form DIPR added.

Chumoukedima: A team carried out inspection at Chumoukedima and Medziphema check gates. The inspection and verification of all police check gates, departmental and municipal, and town council check gates under Chumoukedima district were conducted by district administration, police, and DPRO staff. Since the date of notification, no check gates/toll-gate is functioning under Chumoukedima till the time of the report, an update from DIPR stated. The toll-gates of Chumoukedima Town Council and Medziphema Town Council were also closed. The government departments at the check gates during the inspection were Veterinary, Geology and Mining, Forest, Police, Excise, and Chumoukedima Town Council, which are all stationed in a privately owned building.

Mon: Mon district administration and police conducted an inspection drive for the closure of all check gates except the interstate police check gates. The team was led by ADC Mon, Y Chingyak Konyak, and Addl. SP Mon, Ado Yanlem, NPS. It said that the team observed the closure of check gates at four points in Mon town. Signboards were removed, and the concerned departments were instructed to dismantle the structures. Earlier, DC Mon, Thavaseelan K, had issued an order for the closure of all check gates except the interstate police check gates. Further, it stated that if any check gates were found functional, all persons manning the gates would be prosecuted under Sections 188 & 384 of the Indian Penal Code. 

Mangkolemba: The inspection team under Mangkolemba subdivision Mokokchung district headed by ADC Mangkolemba Dharam Raj conducted an on-spot inspection at Tsutapela check gate on May 22.

The team after spot verification closed down the check gates set up by the Department of Geology and Mining, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Excise department, and the NSCN (IM), it added.

DC Tuensang issues directives on removal of check gates

Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang, Kumar Ramnikant issued directives for strict compliance by all concerned to combat the alleged illegal collection of money from the vehicles at check gates and other locations in the district.

The DC stated that all police check gates and other gates set up by departments, including Tuensang Town Council, except the existing interstate check gates, would be closed immediately throughout the district.  

The inter-state check gates may function up till May 31, 2022 and beyond that date would function only after obtaining specific approval from the Home department, an update from DIPR stated.

In the event of additional inter or intra district check gates is required for an unavoidable reason by any department, including the Police department in any part of the district, the matter would be referred through AHOD/HOD concerned and only after getting prior approval of the government; the check gate will be set up by the department concerned.

The departments have been directed to dismantle and completely remove any temporary structure/building standing at the location and being used by it.

An inspection team comprising ADC (HQ), Addl. SP, District Transport Officer, and the District Public Relations Officer (DPRO) will be responsible for ensuring that there is no check gate functional on any road in the district.

The person in-charge of any gate will ensure that except the government employees detailed by the department, no other private individual is present at any point of time in and around the premises/ structure being used for the check gate.

The contact number with WhatsApp facility, email ID of the control room at DEF Tuensang will be made available for any report, information or complaints regarding illegal collection of money from the vehicles at the check gates or other locations in the state.

It added that no unauthorised check gate is functional in any part of the district.
