The DISHA meeting in Chümoukedima, chaired by MP S Supongmeren Jamir, reviewed centrally sponsored schemes.

DIMAPUR — The District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner's conference hall in Chümoukedima on Thursday under the chairmanship of Lok Sabha MP and DISHA chairperson for Nagaland, S Supongmeren Jamir.
According to a DIPR report, the meeting reviewed the implementation of centrally sponsored schemes and developmental activities in the district.
Addressing the meeting, Jamir said the primary objective was to assess the progress made by various departments in achieving their targets, identify challenges in implementation and collectively find practical solutions to improve developmental outcomes.
He emphasised that developmental activities should reach every section of society and stated that the purpose of the DISHA committee was to strengthen governance and improve service delivery rather than oppose any department or the state government.
Deputy Commissioner Chümoukedima, Polan John, welcomed administrative officers, heads of departments and representatives of village councils, and thanked all departments for their cooperation and feedback in monitoring developmental programmes.
The meeting began with a review of the action taken report of the previous DISHA meeting held on July 16, 2025.
Follow-up reports were presented by the departments of Industries, Rural Development, Public Health Engineering, Agriculture and Youth Resources, highlighting progress made on issues discussed during the earlier meeting.
PowerPoint presentations on the implementation of various schemes and ongoing developmental works were delivered by District Agriculture Officer Moainla Pongen, District Employment Officer Ethel, Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Dr Michael Imchen, and District Urban Development Officer Medosenuo.
The committee deliberated extensively on the status of ongoing developmental projects across the district, discussed implementation challenges and suggested measures to improve the delivery of schemes.
Among the major issues discussed were sanitation, water stress, solid waste management and drainage.
Members stressed the need for sustainable development strategies and highlighted the importance of addressing urban infrastructure challenges.
They also underscored the need for rainwater harvesting and stormwater drainage systems to mitigate urban flooding and strengthen the district's resilience to water-related challenges.
During the discussions, Jamir emphasised the importance of proper documentation and urged departments to maintain accurate records of their achievements and data, describing them as vital indicators of progress and effective planning.
He also called for greater convergence among departments to maximise the impact of government programmes. Referring to welfare measures under the Labour department, he urged officials to intensify awareness campaigns in village clusters so that workers and youths are better informed about government schemes, particularly eSHRAM registration and labour cards.
Jamir further encouraged the department to explore ways to extend the benefits of labour welfare schemes to more youths across Nagaland.
He urged all stakeholders to continue working in close coordination for the overall development of Chümoukedima district and thanked participating departments and officials for their active contribution to the deliberations.
