Mokokchung, June 15 (EMN): A refresher course for Training of Trainers (Tot) for the Community First Responder (CFR) programme organized by the District Disaster Management Authority of Mokokchung was held at the Mokokchung Town Hall here today.
The event was conducted in collaboration with the Home Guards & Civil Defence, and supported by Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority.
Rupin Sharma, DG of Jail & HG, said in his keynote address that Nagaland was a ‘peculiar’ state with difficult terrains and poor connectivity. He emphasized that the CFR training was important for response before rescue initiatives arrive at scenes of emergencies.
The DG added that the CFR training programme prepared personnel for any eventuality besides equipping them with the knowledge and skills to act when disasters strike.
Sharma remarked that warning was not enough. What to do when disaster strikes is more important, the gathering was told. He urged the participants to be prepared always for any eventualities. “Learn something to save life,” he told the participants.
Sharma asserted also that it was the responsibility of the TOTs to train CFR and make people aware about various disasters in their respective sub-division. He expressed hope that once the ToTs start training the people they would be made aware about what calamities can bring.
The official suggested that the CFRs members use all available communication platforms especially the social media to disseminate information and coordinate with members to respond and act in the event of emergency.
Also, the district disaster management officer of Mokokchung, T Wangshi Jamir, said in his welcome address that the CFR training module was the first of its kind in India ‘with a vision to train as many people as possible across the state.
The official added that to train the people in the villages and wards (urban areas), the training programme was also imparted to organized groups of volunteers who will become an asset to the local authorities during emergencies.
Miss Mokokchung 2016 Sunepmenla, who is the Brand Ambassador of the DDMA of Mokokchung also spoke at the event. She demonstrated some safety measures to the participants during the programme. Jamir also informed that after the refresher course, the ToTs will initiate CFR training programmes in their respective subdivision during June 19-23. Participants from five subdivisions in Mokokchung district attended the training today.
