Disaster affected Jalukieram villagers seek govt’s aid

Dimapur, Sep 1 (EMN): Jalukieram Village Council (JVC) has sought the government to extend any possible help through natural calamities/ disasters scheme for the unprecedented destruction caused to the standing crops and soil erosion due to recent incessant rain and flood. The council chairman, Samdineu, mentioned that during this summer starting from July to August, incessant rains had affected the farmers who mainly depend on agriculture for their livelihood. He said standing crops amounting upto 25000 to 30000 tins (locally used measurement) of paddy were damaged. He said around 40 farmers, who solely depended on agriculture, were affected by landslides and soil erosions. The loss and damage in terms was estimated worth around Rs 3500000. In an appeal, the village council has appealed the administrative officer to depute officers or personally investigate or verify the spot and take up proper action for the welfare of the affected farmers.
