Dimapur, Aug. 13 (EMN): Amidst chaos and skepticism, the ‘Covid 19 task committee’ Diphupar B village led by village council chairman Kahuto N Chishi along with a team comprising council members, Naga Women Welfare Society, Naga Youth Organisation, and various tribal bodies have been working 24×7, monitoring the overall situation in the village, stated a press release issued on Thursday.

The committee consisting of seven members was formed with an objective to assist the returnees and monitor the situation within the village. It is a voluntary mission to oversee the pandemic situation, placing the needs of their community above all else, it informed.

At present, there are five quarantine centres functioning in the village, with 121 returnees registered and listed to be lodged at these facilities till December. So far, 83 returnees have returned home after completing their stay at the village-run quarantine centres while four persons are still under community quarantine and 16 households are placed under home quarantine, it stated.

Naga Women Welfare Society has been taking care food for the returnees and Naga Youth Organisation has been working round the clock, keeping strict vigil to ensure that security measures within the village are in place.

Free movements of labourers are strictly monitored and they are advised to be responsible, while their needs are being taken care of by the village council, it informed.

The village council has been giving all out support to needy families by providing ration and distributing drinking water and contributions from good Samaritans within the village, lifting the burden of many poor families and daily wage earners, it stated.

With reports of discrimination been circulated, it said the Diphupar village has been assisting frontline workers in every possible way by supporting them within and outside the village jurisdiction. The Covid-19 task committee is constantly monitoring their health and assisting them by all means possible, it added.

The committee had organised an awareness programme on Covid-19 in the village with Dr. Randemo as the resource person, wherein a total of 139 members attended, following all standard operating procedure and maintaining social distancing.

It was also informed that the committee members attended a training programme held at Chumoukedima block to familiarise themselves on how best to tackle the pandemic situation.

In such a time as this, when the social media world is flooded with all kinds of skeptical news filled with negativity, the village has been sending positive messages through the committee, it informed.
