DIPHU — The International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples will be observed on August 9 at the Sertalin Auditorium in Diphu, Karbi Anglong, Assam.
The event is jointly organised by the Indigenous Women's Forum of North East India (IWFNEI), Karbi Human Rights Watch (KHRW), Naga People's Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR), Borok Indigenous Tipra Peoples Development Centre (BITPDC), and Zo Indigenous Forum (ZIF), and supported by Indigenous Peoples of Asia Solidarity (IPAS) and Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP).
The Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) will host the event.
Addressing a press conference in Diphu on Monday, KHRW convenor Pankaj Teron said, “For the first time, we are organising this event on a grand scale, where indigenous representatives from the eight North-East states will come together to showcase their rich traditions, culture, and food to the world. Despite living in different regions, we have a unique identity to share with the world.”

Teron also highlighted the programme schedule including, inauguration of indigenous fair by KCS president Humsing Bey, featuring cultural showcases from North-East communities and solidarity rally with traditional dances and messages from indigenous communities across North-East states.
Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KACC) Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang will grace the event as the chief guest, and Karbi traditional king Longsing Ronghang will perform the traditional invocation prayer.
