Diphu, May 4 (EMN): The sweeper section of Diphu Town Committee has been on strike since from the last few days in the main Diphu town and they have stopped working until they receive their pending salary. As a part of strike, garbages were not picked up in the Diphu town area by the sweepers and the town remain untidy.
One of the shopkeeper informed that they cannot bear the stinky smell of the garbages. Moreover, the shopkeeper also said that; they use to pay the taxes every week, month to the authority of Diphu Town Committee and where has gone all the taxes money, added the shopkeeper.
One of the senior citizen said that, the sweepers are playing vital role in cleaning up the towns and cities so they have to pay their salary regularly even if the officer salary are pending.
According to the official, a meeting was held on Wednesday between the sweepers section and executive body of the Diphu Town Committee and on the assurance to the sweepers section the strike was withdrawn from yesterday afternoon 4 PM by the Diphu Town Committee official.
Talking to the Eastern Mirror, One of the senior employees said that we did not receive salary for 52 months and it is very difficult to run family affairs.
On the other hand, the official informed that the fund has been allotted already from the 5th Finance Commission first-half for 6 month has already given whereas another second-half fund is yet to be given, the fund is already in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, principal Secretary asked the town committee to submit the proposal as early as possible in order to receive salary for the employee.
