Diphu students injured after tree falls on school; 2 reported killed in storm elsewhere

Diphu, May 9 (EMN): More than 20 school students were severely injured when a big tree fell on the school building of Amtereng LP school in Duaramla MAC (Member of Autonomous Council) constituency in West Karbi Anglong district of Chingthong education block on May 9.
According to sources the incident occurred during school hours when a storm and heavy rainfall lashed the area felling the tree and destroying the school’s building. The injured students were admitted to Baithalangso public health centre for treatment, it was informed.
While giving media persons an update, the school’s headmistress Kache Beypi has urged the authorities to help the school.
Storms also hit the eastern parts of Karbi Anglong such as Howraghat, Phuloni, Bokolia and Dokmoka area where reportedly more than 200 houses were damaged.
According to sources two persons died during the heavy storm. They were identified to be one Mohon Baishya (50) of Howraghat and a Saraswati Harizon (23) of Tilaidanga, within Howraghat police station’s area.
