Dimapur, Dec. 16 (EMN): The 20th annual general meeting of Dimapur District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd. (DIMUL) was held on Dec. 16 at the premises of the Central Dairy, 7th Mile, Dimapur.
The chairman of the union, V Kehie presented the report of the Board of the Directors for the year 2016-17. He said due to economic growth and urbanization, global demand for foods of animal origin is growing and added that dairying shall continue to play a critical role in the agriculture sector of developing countries.
Kehie also said milk and milk products are being recognised for their nutritional and functional aspects and made an integral part of the daily diet of people of all age groups throughout the world.
According to the report by Indian Dairy Association (2016), he mentioned that India continues to be the largest milk producing country, achieving an annual output of 155 million tons and is set to be the largest consumer of milk and milk products as of the year 2016. There has been increased demand for more diversified dairy products segment mainly due to changing food habits, rising income and other demographic shifts in the country and the world, Kehie added.
The year in retrospect has recorded the highest milk procurement over the last five years with an increase of 27.13%. Similarly, in the marketing front there has been increase in sale of lassi by 27.29% and ice cream by 36.02% respectively as depicted in the charts. A popular new product namely plain dahi has been launched during the year, adding variety to the products line, he informed.
The chairman also congratulated all producer-farmers and appealed them to cease the opportunity of the demand for milk and to increase milk production so as to improve income level thereby improving economic status.
On the occasion, Best Dairy Cooperative Society was awarded to Kikhruru DCS, Chumukedima; Best Secretary to Chatra Thapa, Secretary, Bhola DCS, Singrijan; Best Producer to Timikha Koza of Bhola-II DCS, Khriezephe; Best Worker to Khriesamhal; Best Retailer to M/S Plaza Bakery, Kohima and Best Dealer to M/S Sanmati Traders, Dimapur.
