A cadre of the Dima Hasao National Army (DHNA) was lynched while two fellow cadres were injured, one of them critically, after they were thrashed by a mob.
The incident has been reported from a remote area of Assam’s Dima Hasao district. It occurred on Sunday when people were taking part in a festivity. The police said the condition of one of the injured cadres was critical.“It happened when the Dimasa people were celebrating their Bihu festival called Bushu Dima. The trouble started when four DHNA cadres appeared there and picked up a quarrel with some people. Soon, the cadres were thrashed by a section of the people,” Superintendent of Police, Dima Hasao, GV Siva Prasad told Eastern Mirror.
“A cadre was killed and two others were injured. The doctors told us that one of the injured cadres was critical. The injuries, sustained by another cadre, were not fatal. The fourth cadre managed to flee,” he said.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened in and around the place as the people were apprehensive of retaliatory attacks by the outfit.
“We are not taking any chances. We have deployed sufficient personnel to the place and they are prepared to thwart any counter-attack,” the SP added.
The incident came just two days after five cadres of the Sangbijit faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland were brutally beaten up by a mob in the state’s Baksa district on Friday. The incident occurred when the cadres had come to extort the organisers of a festival. Eventually, they were rescued by the police and are now undergoing treatment at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.
