The Excise enforcement authorities of Dimapur district have arrested two persons on November 4 on charges of bootlegging. The Excise department of the district issued a press release on Thursday informing about the catch. The authorities said that liquor was being smuggled to Zunheboto from Assam before a breakdown of a vehicle that was transporting a portion of the liquor.
The Excise department has arrested two persons. The accused have been identified as one Sumiruddin and a Bovito Yeptho. They have been charged under the Nagaland Liquor Total prohibition Act of 1989.
Besides arresting two persons in connection to the case, the authorities confiscated 7, 668 bottles of rum, 1,585 canned beers from a dumper and a Mahindra Scorpio. The authorities said that the liquor was seized from two persons near Ghotovi village, under Niuland sub-division in Dimapur.
“The consignment were (sic) being transported to Zunheboto from Lahorijan (Assam) when steering of one vehicle broke down at the above spot,” the press release informed.
