Dimapur, March 2: Under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), a central project, the authorities are set to construct an approximately 19 feet high footbridge at Delux point in Dimapur. A rough estimation of the budget states to be around 2.5 crore.
During a telephonic conversation with an engineer from the directorate of Urban Development suggested that by the month of March 2017 the authorities were planning to start the construction. The size of the bridge will vary according to the roadway and space available in that particular location where the footbridge is being planned.
The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) proposed two specific locations in Dimapur for a footbridge because of heavy traffic congestion mainly during office and school hours, the source informed. The two proposed sites were Delux Point and Dhobinala. However, seeing the ‘condition’ of the Dhobinala point, they told the DMC that it was not feasible because of space constraints with too many power lines and the junction being quite small for a footbridge.
The work will be taken up by the engineering division from the Urban Development department who will be working mostly during night hours to complete the footbridge within 2-3 years. It will have four different ways to exit facing the flyover bridge, Hill Star lane, Nyamo Lotha road and towards Durga Mandir if nothing comes up to delay the works.
The source added that they were looking forward to constructing more footpaths covering the main town areas of Dimapur in the future under the AMRUT scheme.
