DIMAPUR — The 3rd edition of National Physique Committee (NPC) Nagaland Championship will be held from April 4 to the 6th in Dimapur, and winners of the state level competition will represent the state at the national level in Delhi.

This was informed by the members of Nagaland Physique Alliance (NPA) during a press conference on Thursday in Dimapur.

The state head of NPA, Tohovi Achumi informed that the NPC Nagaland Championship will witness competition in bodybuilding, arm wrestling, power lifting and strong man categories.

He said that since NPC is an international organisation with its headquarters in the United States of America, every athlete who is willing to compete in the NPC Nagaland championship, has to pay a registration fee of USD 30. The registration fee is mandatory if they want to compete in any NPC show worldwide, not just Nagaland, he clarified.

Achumi explained that under the NPC, there is an Indian chapter under which the Nagaland chapter exists and the athletes will compete at the local level and progress to the state level, the region level, national level, and then the international level.

He also informed athletes who are passionate about professional bodybuilding but are from economically weaker sections that the NPA is willing to help them find resources. He invited such aspiring athletes to come forward, while also inviting athletes who are unable to afford the registration fee for the NPC Nagaland Championship to approach the NPA.

Meanwhile, Tarun Khurana, state coordinator and organising secretary, announced plans to introduce sub-junior (teens) and junior (under 23) competitions at the district level and state level for the championship this year. There will be interschool and inter-college competitions in the state to provide equal opportunity to all and find the best athletes from various districts, he said.

He added that NPA will be visiting schools soon to give them knowledge of physical fitness and its importance.

During the briefing, the new office bearers of NPA were also announced. They include Tohovi Achumi as state head, Kimyeto Agapeto as state manager, Tarun Khurana as state co-ordinator and organising secretary, Neithongunuo Rio Achumi as state ambassador, Bendangliba Lkr as state treasurer, Mhabemo Ezung as state mentor, Andrew Yhome as state legal head, V Tokuto Zhimomi as state media and creative head, N Phutolu Achumi as state advisor and Toluka Ayemi as state mentor.

A poster for the upcoming championship show was also released by the members during the briefing.
