Dimapur Sumi Council celebrates 50th anniversary

Dimapur, Nov. 30 (EMN): Dimapur Sumi Council (DSC) celebrated its 50th anniversary in its office at Supply Colony on November 29 on the theme ‘Reflect, Renew.’

An update from DSC stated that the advisor of Power department, Tovihoto H Ayemi, unveiled the monolith at the inaugural function as the special guest in the presence of Sumi GBs, chairmen, council members of various localities and wards.

It stated that Shikuto Yepthomi, GB and DSC vice president, chaired the inaugural programme, while Rev. Ahoshe Chophy, senior pastor of NCRC Dimapur, invoked the blessings for the jubilee and Kupuli Kiba, associate pastor of NCRC Dimapur, said the benediction.

The main programme was chaired by its vice president, Zhevihe Sumi, held at the premises of Dimapur Sumi Baptist Church, which was attended by dignitaries from Naga Council Dimapur, Western Sumi Hoho, Western Sumi Kukami Hoho, Western Sumi Youth Front and Western Sumi Sports’ Association.

The programme began with the sounding of jubilee trumpet and paying of homage to the past pioneers of the DSC followed with a march of carrying fifty candles by GBs, chairmen and leaders of Dimapur.

Vikuto T Zhimomi, convener of the jubilee planning board, welcomed the congregation, while Shikaho Zhimomi, president of the Western Sumi Hoho, and GK Rengma, NCD vice president, exhorted the gathering. A song was presented by Omekali V Chishi and Inato Assumi, while jubilee anthem was sang by Toluvito Yeptho, which was composed by Khekaho Aye and Elito Toluho Chishi.

Speaking on the occasion, Tovihoto called upon the community to bear social responsibility as one of the major tribes among the Nagas. He stated that Sumis must unite and share responsibility without depending on others in order to progress.

DSC president, Kuhoi Zhimomi, highlighted the history of the council and stressed about the need for peaceful co-existence of Sumis along with all other communities.

Folk songs were presented by the men from Niu Colony and women from town area sector. Jubilee souvenirs were distributed to guests and prizes in poetry competition and sports were also given away.

Rev. S Vitoshe Swu, senior pastor of DSBC, graced the blessings of the jubilee and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Hokuto Zhimomi, president of Dimapur District GBs’ Federation.
