DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) on Thursday declared the HSLC and HSSLC 2026 results, with Aman Kumar of MGM Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, topping the HSLC examination with 98.33%.
The 16-year-old was in Bihar when the results were declared and said that he learnt about his rank through a friend, initially finding it hard to believe as the results had been expected only on April 24.
“I searched the internet and was very happy to see my name at the top,” he said.
Kumar shared he had expected to be among the top five and said securing the top rank ‘means a lot to me.”
He plans to pursue the Science stream and continue his studies at a CBSE school in Nagaland, aiming to become a neurosurgeon. “I want to serve patients in the future. That’s the only thing I need,” he said.

According to the topper, he began focused preparation in January, studying five to seven hours a day on average, and added that he did not find any subject particularly difficult. To manage stress, he said that he took breaks and used his free time effectively.
On challenges, Kumar said that he did not face major difficulties, crediting the support of his parents and teachers. “I could clear my doubts with my teachers and speak frankly with my parents,” he said.
He added that he managed distractions by spending time alone and reminding himself of his goal to perform well in the Class 10 examination.
Offering advice to other students, he said, “This is not the end. Stay consistent and focus on understanding the concepts,” adding, “We are not robots, we are humans. We need to understand instead of just memorising.”
Kumar also expressed gratitude to his tuition teacher and class teacher, Anjan, for guidance across subjects during his preparation. He is expected to return to Dimapur in the first week of May.
