Dimapur residents asked to conduct social work amid rising dengue cases
DIMAPUR — In view of the increasing number of dengue cases in the district amid the ongoing monsoon season, the deputy commissioner of Dimapur has issued a circular asking all government offices, shops and households to conduct social work once a week (preferably Saturday) to contain the spread of the disease by focusing on spot reduction and elimination of viable breeding spaces for mosquitoes.
The citizens have been advised to clean their own premises and surroundings besides draining stagnant water from flower pots, leaves, tyres, old containers and drip pans of refrigerators which are the main contributing factors to mosquito breeding.
“Further, colony/ward/village chairman/GBs are requested to extend cooperation and ensure participation of all the public and eliminate stagnant water in domestic homes and in public spaces,” read the circular from DC Sachin Jaiswal.
It came a day after the District Vector Borne Disease Consultant, Dimapur, Peter Sangtam, told Eastern Mirror that Chümoukedima and Dimapur districts have witnessed an increase in dengue cases this year, detecting more than 200 cases in just three months, starting from June.
As many as 206 positive cases of dengue have been recorded in Dimapur and Chümoukedima districts alone as of August 31, out of 1490 samples tested, compared to 151 cases registered in 2022, he informed while describing the trend as “highly concerning”.
