Dimapur, April 27 (EMN): Dimapur police arrested one criminal identified as Islam Uddin (36) and resident of Sarupathar under Golaghat district in Assam on April 25 wanted in connection with the murder of Rashida Khatum (28).
A police report issued by the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police and PRO, Dimapur, stated that the police investigation team achieved a breakthrough on recovery of a train ticket from the purse of the victim, whose body was found in 6th Mile area March 11 last. It stated that the single current train ticket led the police on an investigation trail to Sarupathar and Uriamghat in Golaghat district where the identity of the victim as well as the prime accused could be established.
According to the report, the accused confessed that on March 10, he along with his wife boarded the Avadh-Assam Express train from Sarupathar on the pretext of visiting his friends and acquaintances in Dimapur. On reaching Dimapur, the accused husband hired an autorickshaw and took her to 6th Mile.
The accused husband further took the victim to an interior part of 6th Mile on the same ploy to visit his friend’s house. Subsequently on reaching a secluded paddy field, the husband murdered his wife by strangulation. After committing the crime, the accused then fled to Assam.
He further confessed that the criminal act was done due to a marital discord. Case in this connection has been registered at Women Police Station for further investigation.
In a separate incident, Dimapur police arrested three persons on April 26 for possession ammunitions.
The accused were indentified as Ningkham Angkang (36) of Lumphu village in Ukhrul disrtrict, Manipur, and resident of Half Nagarjan; Mahesh Yadav (38) of Birrakh village in Bihar ans resident of Dobhinullah near Army Supply Road, Dimapur; and Manoj Thakhur of Birrakh village in Bihar and resident of Dobhinullah near Army Supply Road, Dimapur.
Police recovered 198 rounds of 9 mm calibre, one Maruti Gypsy bearing registration No. NL07 C A0351 and cash amounting to INR 2020 from their possession. It stated that case in this connection has been registered at East Police Station for investigation.
