Dimapur police nab extortionists, armed men

EMN Dimapur, September 12 Dimapur Police have arrested 7 cadres from various underground factions on various counts of extortion and illegal passion of arms. The district police apprehended four underground cadres during various occasions on September 11 in Dimapur when they were extorting, the police informed on Friday. The extortionists have been identified as Kughato Achumi, 32 of Lochumi village and Tokaho Awomi, 28 years, of Viyilo village, both in Zunheboto. The two were apprehended while extorting from people in Bamunpukhri. So-called “tax coupons” bearing NSCN (IM) “vehicle tax,” FGN’s “bricks challan” and “NSCN- U gate pass” as well as cash amounting to Rs.790 were seized from their possession, police said. In another case of extortion, one Talisupo Longkumer, 19 years, of Merangkong village in Mokokchung was apprehended on September 9 for extorting from footpath vendors in New Market. Another extortionist identified as Inakhu, 28 years, of Aghunato was apprehended when he was in the process of extorting from the fish market in New Market. In other incidents, the police arrested three persons for illegal possession of arms. One person reportedly a self-styled “sgt major” in the NSCN (K) identified as one Mughakhe Zhimomi, 24 years of Ghowoto village under Medziphema was apprehended below the Flyover. The accused was found in possession of a .22 pistol with four live ammunitions in the magazine, police said. In another incident, two persons were arrested on September 12 from the Blue Hill Station. The arrested one Bamang Taming, 25 years of Langbung village in Arunachal and Kon Lingum, 20 years, of Ranga village in Arunachal were found in possession of one .32 pistol with two magazines and one live round and one .22 pistol with one magazine.
