She said the primary objective of the project is to decongest traffic in busy areas and reduce air pollution caused by prolonged vehicle congestion. The system will also aid in crime detection and deterrence by enabling real-time monitoring and recording of vehicle movements.
The CP highlighted that the command centre will allow traffic personnel to be guided remotely, improving efficiency in managing congestion and noted that with this system, even a single traffic personnel on the ground can be supported through multiple eyes from the control room.
Expressing gratitude, Imchen CP thanked the state government, central ministry, district administration and the technical team headed by DCP Traffic for successfully implementing the project.
Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang also termed the initiative a positive beginning despite limited NCAP funding.
He noted that similar projects, including traffic sensors installed last year, have shown promising results and expressed hope that it expanses to more locations.
Chang further appealed to the public to cooperate with the authorities and ensure protection of the installed equipment, cautioning against theft or damage of cameras.
He added that the system will be beneficial in recording vehicle movements, assisting in accident investigations, and helping law enforcement identify and apprehend offenders.
