Dimapur police issues odd-even traffic regulations

Dimapur, Sep. 1 (EMN): The commissioner of police, Dimapur, Rothihu Tetso, has issued odd-even traffic regulations for non-essential vehicular movement within Dimapur town and NH-29 till Chümoukedima with effect from September 2, which he said is done in the interest of public safety during the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic.

Odd number day: On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, only vehicle with registration number ending with odd numbers (eg. 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9) will be allowed to ply.

Even number day: On Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, only vehicles with registration number ending with even numbers (eg. 2, 4, 6, 8 and0) will be allowed to ply.

The category under essential services as notified earlier will be exempted, the order informed, adding that government servants on bonafide government duties and vehicles involved in providing essential services involved in Covid-19 related duties will also be exempted from the purview of this restriction on production of relevant documents and valid ID proof.

Two-wheelers will also be exempted from this traffic restriction.

All heavy vehicles, except those engaged in four-lane construction work with valid permit, will be restricted from plying within the town area and highway area from 9 am to 3 pm.

The commissioner of police also cautioned that violation of the order will be penalised under section 177 and 179 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and appealed to all the citizens to extend co-operation in the interest of public safety.
