Dimapur police issues odd-even rule for vehicles

Dimapur, May 8 (EMN): For the safety and security of the public as well as to minimise movement of vehicles carrying non-essential comodities, Commissioner of Police Dimapur, has issued new order for strict compliance with effect from May 11 to the 17th.

Commissioner of police, Dimapur, Rothihu Tetseo has issued the order under section 115 of the Motor vehicle Act 1958 ( as amended by Motor Vehicle Amendment Act 2019.

According to the order, vehicles with registration number ending with odd numbers (eg. 1,3,5,7,9) would be allowed to ply only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, while vehicles with registration number ending with even numbers (eg. 2,4,6,8,0) would be allowed to ply only on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The order would apply to areas covering the NH-29 and within the town, an update from the Commissioner of Police, stated on Friday. The order further stated that prohibition and restrictions on movement of vehicles would not apply to those vehicles exempted through various government notifications that are currently in force' in the state and Dimapur district.

The order also cautioned said that violators would be penalised under section 177 and 179 of the MV Act 1988.

Meanwhile, the police officer reminded the citizens that lockdown is still enforce and appealed to the people to abide by the order, stating that it was for the safety and interest of all.
