- DIMAPUR — The
Dimapur Police have expressed optimism that the evidence gathered from the
crime scene of the gruesome murder of a woman on April 7 near Pimla village in
Chümoukedima district will lead to vital links with some detained suspects.
- When contacted, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime/PRO),
Dimapur, Khekali Y Sumi, on Thursday told Eastern Mirror that investigation
into the murder is currently underway, and police are working to piece together
the events surrounding the crime.
- Admitting that an individual cannot be detained in police
custody beyond 24 hours without legal proceedings, the DCP, however, said that
the investigating officers might have sought an extension through the court to
carry out a more in-depth investigation.
- Khekali informed that the detained individuals are currently
in police custody and undergoing interrogation. She went on to clarify that
their detention is not arbitrary but based on credible human intelligence and
digital evidence.

- She also disclosed that the forensic team had collected
crucial evidence from the crime scene and expressed confidence that it will
help link the accused person(s) to the crime.
- Further, she mentioned that when a crime scene is disturbed
or lacks sufficient evidence, then it becomes an uphill task for the
investigating officers to build a case. However, the police officer assured
that the investigating team is committed to its task to ensure successful
prosecution.
- “All relevant evidence has been gathered and will be
submitted to the forensic laboratory for DNA analysis,” Khekali said, adding
that “further details cannot be shared at this stage to avoid jeopardising the
case.”
