The anti-extortion team of Dimapur police has, in the intervening period of not more than 24 hours between September 6th and 7th caught seven persons from three separate incidents of extortion in Dimapur. This information was contained in a press release issued Monday by the PRO Dimapur police, ASP Watichujang Jamir.
On September 6 last, two extortionists who have been identified as Aghato Achumi (36 years) and Thungbemo Kikon (48 years) were caught red-handed collecting “taxes” at Ghorapatti, Dimapur. “Two tax coupons in the name of Government of the People’s Republic of Nagaland (NSCN- U) were seized from their possession,” the PRO statement informed.
On the same day, two FGN cadres identified as Arun Chishi (33 years) and Kivito (29 years) were caught while collecting ransom money from a shopping mall located at Clock Tower, Dimapur.
The following day another three extortionists were caught at Ghorapatti. According to the PRO Dimapur police, the trio was caught “in the process of collecting illegal taxes from trucks.” They have been identified as Ikaho Swu (25 years), Zakai Awomi (26 years) and Kuhoi Zhimomi (43 years).
He informed that 14 “illegal tax collection receipts bearing the name Lorry challan of Deopani Sand Suppliers Agency and Assam Sand Suppliers Agency were seized from their possession.” Cases have been registered against the arrested accused persons who have been forwarded to court while investigation is ongoing, the PRO added.
