Dimapur police arrests 3 persons in connection with extortion

DIMAPUR — As many as three persons, said to be associated with Naga political groups, were arrested by the Dimapur police in separate incidents over the last few days in connection with extortion.

A delayed update from the office of Police Commissioner informed that the Dimapur police arrested one Katoshe Awomi, SS Tatar of NSCN (Nikki) (34 years), of Saghemi P.S Suruhoto in Zunheboto district, currently residing at Padampukhuri in Dimapur, on March 8.

He was apprehended from Green Door Resort at Sovima for issuing summon letters to agencies within Dimapur Town, it said, adding that a case has been registered at East Police Station in this connection and an investigation is on.

In another case, the police arrested one Santosh Shah (39 years), a resident of Grace Colony in Kuda-C Khel village, Dimapur, from Railway market on March 10 while “extorting money from vegetables, fish and meat vendors, on behalf of one Deputy Kilonser of NSCN (IM) faction”. A case has been registered at East Police Station and an investigation initiated.

The Dimapur police also arrested one Vihoshe Murru (36 years), S.S Major NPGN /NNC (Non accord), of Sataka village in Zunheboto and currently residing at Burma Camp in Dimapur, while extorting money from Tata Garage Burma Camp on March 11. A case has been registered and is under investigation, said the update.
