Dimapur police apprehends four extortionists

DIMAPUR, JUNE 14 : Four persons involved in extortion have been arrested in 3 separate incidents at Dimapur today. One Kawato Aye was arrested around 12 noon at Dhobinala Area by the Anti Extortion Team, Zone- II after he was found extorting money in the name of NSCN/GPRN (R). A demand note undersigned by T.K Sumi, Dy. Kilonser, Finance In-charge, Dimapur demanding for Rs. 2 lacs within three days to a group was found in his possession. While 4 booklets of information slips and cash receipts in the name of NSCN (R) were also seized. The accused on interrogation by the police has claimed to be a civilian. The accused is in the custody of West Police Station and a case has been registered. In another incident, two persons namely Rokongulie Ràkho (23) and Rukuzo Kezo (21) hailing from Phek district were apprehended by the Medziphema Town Youth Organization(MTYO) at M.K Assertion Station, Tsiepama petrol pump. The incident is said to have happened around 10 in the morning while they were trying to extort money from truck drivers in the name of NSCN (R). A cash receipt of NSCN (R) was recovered. MTYO handed over the accused at Medziphema Police station while a case has been registered. Also, one Vihoto Yeptho (30) from Thilixu Village was arrested by the Anti Extortion Team on public demand at New Market around 2 pm after he was caught collecting money from vegetable vendors in the name of NSCN (IM). An amount of Rs. 3090 collected from vendors was also seized. The accused is in the custody of East Police Station, Dimapur. Further investigations are on.
