- DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union
(DNSU) has hit out at the alleged recent arbitrary appointments of assistant
professors in the Higher Education department, bypassing the mandated
recruitment process through the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC).
- In a press release on Tuesday, the union termed the
appointments as a blatant disregard for established procedures, which
undermines the principles of meritocracy, transparency, and fairness in public
service recruitment.
- Viewing the act as a gross violation of the rights of
qualified and aspiring Naga youth who have diligently prepared and awaited
opportunities through the NPSC, the union vented that integrity of the state’s
educational institutions is compromised when appointments are made based on
favouritism and nepotism rather than merit and competence.
- “Such arbitrary appointments not only deny deserving
individuals their rightful opportunities but also severely impact the quality
of education imparted to our students. The future of our state's higher
education is being jeopardised by these unethical practices,” it said.

- The union called for immediate cancellation of all
appointments made without following the NPSC recruitment process, strict
adherence to NPSC recruitment norms, and ensuring transparency and
accountability in all recruitment processes to maintain the integrity of public
service.
- The DNSU also demanded thorough investigation into the
matter and appropriate action taken against those responsible for the
“arbitrary appointments.”
- Additionally, it insisted that the government must uphold
the rights of Naga youth to fair and equitable opportunities in public service.
- “The DNSU urges the state government to rectify this grave
injustice and restore the faith of the Naga youth in the fairness and integrity
of the recruitment processes. Failure to address this issue will compel the
DNSU to launch further agitations to protect the rights and interests of the
student community,” the union said.
- “It is also shocking to note that Naga Society has eroded so
much that educated individuals willingly participates in such unscrupulous
practices, robbing the deserving students of a chance to write NPSC.”
- “As per the RTI reply, 144 posts have been arbitrarily
regularised in the year 2024-25, which is even unthinkable,” it added.
