DIMAPUR — Following recent reports of illegal price tempering on school textbooks sold in the open market, the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has asked members of the public to report any cases of forged or tampered price tags to its office or grievances cell.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the union informed that its office will remain open from 10 am to 4 pm. It urged the citizens to call at 6009812596 and 9862675997. “We shall pursue the matter legally against defaulters through the rightful authorities,” it stated.
According to DNSU, many goods, including school textbooks, clothes, accessories, decorations, and many items, are being sold in the market with tampered price tags and without price tags, which has added to the woes of the general public.
“As the festive season approaches, the multitude of innocent shoppers that rush to the market will fall prey to those unscrupulous business owners to loot and take advantage of the public if not checked properly. DNSU warns such business establishments to immediately stop fooling the public and engage in legal and honest business,” the press release read.
Also, the union expressed “shock” at reports of fuel adulteration and the practice of non-local businesspersons operating their businesses under Naga names to avoid paying taxes. “Such a system of operating business is illegal, and DNSU appeals to all those gullible Nagas not to continue to be a part of such dishonest practices.
“DNSU warns the non-locals, who are taking advantage of the locals and running their businesses, to immediately stop and run their businesses genuinely and legally by following the norms of the government and paying taxes honestly to bring all-round development to the country and the state,” it stated.
