Dimapur, Nov. 12(EMN): The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) caught eight defaulting butchers under its jurisdiction for selling meat above the prescribed rate on Thursday.
The administrator of DMC, Albert Ezung informed that the council’s market rate control cell conducted a surprise checking of all butchers under DMC jurisdiction and found that some of them were flouting the prescribed meat rate.
In this connection, eight defaulters were caught and fined INR 2000 each as penalty. He also warned that if they were caught again, their trade licence would be suspended.
Ezung further directed all the butchers to sell meat at the rate fixed by the council.
Earlier this month, Ezung issued an order containing the revised rate of pork under DMC. According to the revised rate, the price of pork for wholesale has been fixed at INR 170 per kg, while retail (dressed) would cost INR 250 per kg and INR 200 per kg for offal (head, hoof, intestine).
In the order, he had warned that failure to comply with the order would compel the DMC to take appropriate action.
