DIMAPUR — The political crisis within Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has deepened further after the Naga People’s Front (NPF) Dimapur division issued show-cause notices to six of its councillors who joined the move to bring a no-confidence motion against DMC Chairperson Hukheto Yepthomi.
The notices, issued on May 16 by the chairman of the Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC), accused the councillors of acting “in connivance with other political parties” to move the no-confidence motion against the party’s leader in the council without approval from the competent party authority.
The party stated that the action had been “seriously viewed” as it allegedly violated the principles, ideologies and constitution of the NPF.
“In terms of the Party Constitution, you are hereby called upon to show cause within 24 hours from the date of this notice as to why disciplinary action should not be initiated against you,” the notice read.

No-confidence motion moved against Niuland Town Council chairperson
The councillors were further directed to submit written explanations before the DAC within the stipulated period, failing which the committee would “hear and determine the case in your absence and initiate necessary action as it deems fit and proper.”
However, party sources said that none of the six councillors had responded to the notices even after the expiry of the 24-hour deadline.
The no-confidence motion against the DMC chairperson was reportedly initiated by 12 elected representatives—six councillors from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and six from the NPF—led by Deputy Chairperson Imlinaro Stephanie Ezung.
Meanwhile, Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio, had told reporters on May 16 that the matter was currently pending before the deputy commissioner and that the government would wait for the outcome of the process.
