Dimapur-Kohima 4-lane road likely to be completed by 2024

Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), G Kishan Reddy on Monday informed that the ongoing projects in the north-eastern region (NER) including four-laning of the Dimapur- Kohima road (62.9 km) in Nagaland, are likely to be completed by May 2024.

The union minister stated this in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Monday.

He informed that a total of 4016.48 km road costing INR 58.385 crore are ongoing in the NER. These projects were undertaken during the last five years. The completed projects in NER cover a length of 3099.50 km for INR 15,570.44 crore, while the ongoing projects are likely to be completed by May 2024, he stated.

The major ongoing capital road connectivity projects in NER include the four-laning of Dimapur-Kohima road in Nagaland; four-laning of Nagaon bypass to Holongi (167 km) in Arunachal Pradesh; alternate two-lane highway from Bagrakote to Pakyong (NH-717A) (152 km) in Sikkim; two-laning of Aizawl-Tuipang NH-54 (351 km) in Mizoram; and four-laning of Imphal-Moreh section of NH-2 (20 km), and two-landing of 75.4 km in Manipur, he informed.

PIL filed in Gauhati High Court on Dimapur-Kohima road

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) (suo moto) has been filed in the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, concerning the four-laning of Dimapur- Kohima road.

Hearing the litigation, a bench of Justices Songkhupchung Serto and Nelson Sailo had on May 11, 2022 passed an order, mentioning ‘authority engineers’ reports on the work progress in all three packages as of May 8, 2022.

Package-I (Design km 123.840 to km 138.775=14.935 km, four-lane contractor: M/s Ramky-ECI (JV) stands at physical progress of 95.08% and financial progress of 93.07%; the Package-II (Design km 138.775 to km 152.490=13.715 km, four-lane contractor: M/s Ramky-ECI (JV): stands at physical progress-95.78% and financial progress-94.26%, it stated.

In package-III (Design km 152.490 to km 166.700=14.210 km, four-lane contractor: M/s Oasis Projects Ltd.), the physical progress was 22.35% while the financial progress was 19.13%, the court order had highlighted.
