Unity youth rally comprising seven villages in support of Moatoshi Longkumer, NDPP of Dimapur II A/C was held at Indisen ground in Dimapur on Tuesday.

While addressing the gathering, Longkumer said that the day was special because of the presence of his ‘onetime erstwhile rival now friend’ Supu Jamir, who had made the decision to sacrifice his candidature in order to pave the way for him.

Longkumer also thanked the six youth organisations of the neighboring villages for being part of the rally, adding that his vision is to make Dimapur a clean city, a city where all the inhabitants have peace of mind and co-exist peacefully among the communities.

He expressed that they should have a sustainable livelihood but unfortunately, he could not fulfill those objectives as he was in the opposition and therefore could not help any individual.

Longkumer added that in Nagaland being an opposition MLA has got ‘no place in the government’, however this election, he got the opportunity to join the ruling government.

Stating that it is a foregone conclusion if he is elected by their support, he would be in the ruling government where they would start to realise their vision phase-wise.

Highlighting more about his vision, Longkumer said that his priority is youth empowerment.

He added that if this trend continues, the youth would take up arms and, therefore in order to overcome this problem, he would endeavor to empower the youth by providing them opportunities.

Longkumer stated that if he gets elected, he will make sure that all the colony roads in his constituency are paved in a phased manner as it cannot be done overnight. He would also organise a monthly Town Hall meeting with the citizens of Dimapur II A/C so that they can share their problems and discuss ways and means to move forward.

‘Another issue is the drug menace, especially the sunflower drug addiction invading Dimapur,’ stated Longkumer, adding that no law and order can control it but only with the intervention of the public and colony. Therefore, he requested the people to come together and control this menace by forming colony or village watch groups.

Also addressing the gathering, Supu Jamir who withdrew his candidature from Dimapur-II A/C, said that in his own capacity, he was well prepared to  contest the 2023 general election, however when their leaders from different walks of life approached and requested him to join hands with Longkumer this time, he refused to back out.

Jamir said he fought for almost two weeks and finally decided to sacrifice for the people of the state and Dimapur-II A/C. He considered to withdraw his candidature on February 10 and also clarified that he did not take any money from the leader, saying that politics is not business but a service to the people.

At the rally, short speeches were also delivered by Kacharigaon Phevima Youth Organisation, General Secretary, Kehodi Yoho, Rilan Youth Organisation, President, Mhachen Lotha, Industrial Estate Colony Youth Forum, Bendang Pongener, Aoyimkum Youth Organisation, Senjum Village Youth Organisation and Kashiram Village Youth Organisation
