DIMAPUR — Dimapur Government College (DGC) has launched Yuva tourism club on May 24 during a programme chaired by its assistant professor and teacher in-charge of the club, Dr. Temsusenla Jamir.

Speaking at the launch event, Dr. Jamir informed that a total of 112 students have enrolled as members of the club and appreciated the enthusiasm showed by the students. She stated that the Ministry of Tourism initiated the establishment of ‘Yuva tourism clubs’ as part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations, stated an update from the college.

She mentioned that the vision of Yuva tourism clubs was to nurture and develop young ambassadors of Indian tourism, who would become aware of tourism possibilities in India, appreciate the rich cultural heritage and develop an interest and passion for tourism.

“These young ambassadors would be catalysts for promoting tourism in India and participation in tourism clubs would facilitate development of soft skills like teamwork, management, leadership besides encouraging adoption of responsible tourism practices and concern for sustainable tourism,” Dr. Jamir said.

Dr. Vinyuhu Lhoungu, IQAC coordinator, informed the gathering that the Ministry of Tourism, government of India’s Northeastern regional office at Kolkata, would anchor the entire programme by providing the prerequisite support for the smooth functioning of the club. He stated that the objective of the club was to educate youth about diverse cultures and geographies of the country and to appreciate the importance of travel and tourism in education.

He further stated the activities such as essay writing, logo designing, my shot, quiz, painting, poster designing would be conducted under the club.

It stated that the office bearers of the club were also elected during the launch programme. The president and general secretary were elected from the 4th semester, while the vice president and assistant general secretary were elected from the 2nd semester.

The vice principal of the college, Kezhaleu Hesso, officially launched the club and congratulated the newly elected office bearers and the members of the club. She urged them to be actively involved in the club activities and learn from it as tourism sector is one of the fastest growing sectors in the world.
