Dimapur Government College launches a Retail Skill Management Centre to enhance students' practical skills and employability.

DIMAPUR — A Retail Skill Management Centre, set up by the Department of Commerce, was launched at the Commerce Block of Dimapur Government College (DGC) on Monday.
The inaugural programme was attended by Temjensoba Imsong, Additional PS to the Minister of Higher Education, as the special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Imsong highlighted that in an era where people are at a crossroads regarding employment after obtaining their degrees, the government is giving high priority to developing skills. He urged everyone to avail the opportunities provided by the government to skill themselves.
Dr. T Tiakaba Jamir, Principal of Dimapur Government College, delivered the inaugural speech, acknowledging the initiative of the Commerce department to establish the centre.

He stated that skilling is being prioritised and encouraged by the government and is a key objective of the National Education Policy 2020. Pointing out that digital marketing is the need of the hour, he encouraged everyone to upgrade their skills accordingly.
Earlier, Biswajit Sarkar, convenor of the centre, highlighted the importance of acquiring skills alongside basic academic knowledge. He urged the students to seize the opportunity to learn, experiment, and innovate.
T George Kire, Head of the Department of Commerce, stated that all students should learn about financial accounting and business management practically while pursuing their academic endeavours.
The centre was formally inaugurated in the presence of faculty members and students.
