Dimapur Government College holds entrepreneurship and skill development training
Dimapur, May 7 (EMN): The valedictory programme of the entrepreneurship and skill development training organised by the Skill Development Committee of Dimapur Government College (DGC), in collaboration with Nagaland Tool Room and Training Centre (NTTC), Dimapur, was held at DGC seminar hall on May 6.
The programme was attended by the principal and vice principal of DGC, officials from NTTC, trainers from Kudatech Skill Centre, faculty of DGC and the students, an update stated.
The course coordinator and DGC assistant professor, Dr. G Phukato Sema, gave a brief report of the training.
He informed that the training course comprised two batches and a total of 145 students successfully completed the training. The course offered four different skills namely assistant electrician, fibre extraction and handicrafts, post-harvest management of fruits and vegetables and solid waste management.
The assistant general manager of NTTC, Epibeni Ezung, expressed appreciation to the college and expressed hope for future collaboration with the skill hub of the college under the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), New Delhi.
She also highlighted about the different courses offered by NTTC and how learning the different skills could be a career option for the youth.
The course director from Kudatech Skill Centre, PA Thomas, congratulated the successful students and said they were now equipped and skilled to venture out into the world.
Meanwhile, the principal of Dimapur Government College, Prof. Sanjay Sharma, thanked NTTC for the courses offered and Kudatech Skill Centre for the execution of the same.
The report stated that the trainer of post-harvest management, Eranpeni Yanthan, shared her experiences and encouraged the students to take up skill learning seriously. It added that students also shared their experiences about the training in their respective skill trades.
Meanwhile, the Psychology department of Dimapur Government College, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organised a state-level seminar on May 5 with Dr. Imlisongla Longkumer, assistant professor of Psychology at Nagaland University, Meriema campus, and Dr. Temsusenla Jamir, assistant professor of Psychology at DGC, as a resource person on the theme “Behavioral and mental health challenges among youth: Strategies to enhance well-being.”
An update from the college stated that Dr. Longkumer has explained on the importance of youth’s mental health as they are in a formative stage where they go through rapid changes be it social, cognitive, emotional or physical, and are expected to make adjustments with their environment.
Dr. Longkumer also mentioned some common behavioural and mental health problems that are prevalent in youth such as anxiety disorder, depression, eating disorders, substance misuse and gaming disorder and highlighted some tips on how to develop coping skills when faced with such problems.
Meanwhile, Dr. Jamir gave a presentation on “Positive psychology for mental health and well-being.” She explained about mental illness and the importance of maintaining good mental health. Mental well-being according to her included the overall well-being of a person such as social well-being, emotional well-being and spiritual well-being and not just physical well-being.
