Dimapur, July 2 (EMN): In view of monsoon preparedness and possibility of heavy rains, flash floods and strong wind in the next two weeks, Dimapur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anoop Khinchi convened a meeting with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Thursday.

Chairing the meeting, the DC said that in case of any disaster, the first priority would be for saving lives and then property and other issues.

He directed the Power department to form an emergency team to be available for restoration of lines and also asked them to barricade areas in case of tree fall, causing threat to human safety. Executive magistrates have been asked to identify unstable buildings in their respective jurisdictions and submit report at the earliest and also directed them to draw out a preparedness plan of their areas. He further directed the PWD department to submit a status report of Balijan, Dhansiri and the Nagarjan bridges.

While expressing their willingness to work in case of any eventuality, the Home Guards department and Dimapur Municipal Council have asked for financial assistance from the DDMA, to which the DC has assured to help. Niuland Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Athrila highlighted re-strengthening of Balijan Bridge, stating that it is the only lifeline for the people staying in Niuland area. She also suggested repairing of the hanging bridge between Niuland and Hovukhu village.

ADC Medziphema also suggested arranging of alternative route for transporting essential commodities, should there be a major landslide.

Assam Rifles and CRPF also expressed their willingness to provide any logistics under their ambit, should a disaster hit the district.

Khinchi has further advised everyone to be vigilant, saying that heavy showers could occur any time.
