Dimapur, Oct. 29 (EMN): The fifth edition of the Dimapur Night Carnival, 2017, will witness more of the local originality as organisers of the carnival are aiming to make the popular event more innovative with preferences to locally made products and allotment of stalls based on innovative ideas.
This innovative format was announced by the organising committee at a press conference that was held at Hotel Saramati at Dimapur on Sunday Oct.29.
The event is being jointly organised by district administration, Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI), Business Association of Nagaland (BAN) and the East Dimapur Business Association (EDBA). The event aims at promoting products of local small enterprises.
This year’s carnival will be a seven-day affair from December 11 to the 17th, said organising committee Secretary Dr. Khekugha Muru. The carnival was extended to seven-days on popular demand, it was informed. The organisers have decided to increase the stalls to 250 excluding the corporate and companies. Also, Dr. Muru maintained that visitors to the carnival had increased during the previous editions. It includes domestic tourists, it was informed.
Stall allotment will be made after proper scrutiny in order that upcoming local entrepreneurs would benefit. This year’s carnival will be more like a ‘training ground’ for local entrepreneurs, Dr. Muru informed.
“The volume of business has increased year by year and around 200 local entrepreneurs have been benefitted from the carnival,” he maintained. Taking this into account, the organiser has set up an ‘innovation committee,’ which he said would be the ‘star attraction’ at the carnival.
There will be a competition for the ‘best stall’ like the previous years. The winner of the previous year’s ‘best stall’ award will be allowed to set up their stall for free, informed Dr. Muru. He said that the organisers were also planning to give preference to each district to set up a stall. The profit earned from the carnival will be used for charitable works, he said. He added that the profit earned in 2015 was utilised to provide water supply to the district hospital of Dimapur.
The co-convenor of the organising committee and vice president of the Business Association of Nagas vice president, Akum Jamir, informed that apart from exhibition of various products, there will be entertainment every night during which various artists will be performing.
The convener of the organising committee and president of the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Akashe Zhimomi, identified the carnival as a platform where people from all walks of life can come together to ‘enjoy and witness the diverse culture of the Nagas.’ He expressed contentment at the large turnout including participation from non-Nagas and enjoying the festive season.
