Dimapur — Dimapur district is set to launch the Intensified Mission Indradhanush 5.0 (IMI) on August 7.

This was announced during a meeting of the district task force on Intensive Mission Indradhanush (IMI) and National Deworming Day held on Thursday in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office with allied departments and stakeholders.

An update from the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Dimapur, stated that Dr. Rebecca spoke on IMI 5.0, which would commence on August 7. The objective, according to her, was to identify all the left-out and drop-out children and vaccinate them with all the due doses of vaccination. She added that focus would be made on high risk areas during the campaign.

She stated that Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP) is one of the largest public health programme. She informed that routine immunisation started in India since 1978, which gained momentum and now expanded to Universal Immunisation Programme. She added that through the Universal Immunisation Programme, India achieved polio-free country status in 2014 by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and in 2016, WHO certified India as maternal and neonatal tetanus-free.

Speaking on the National Deworming Day, Dr. Rebecca stated that the day would be observed to deworm all preschool and school children (enrolled and non-enrolled) between the ages of 1-19 years through the platform of schools and Anganwadi centres in order to improve their overall health, nutritional status, access to education and quality of life.

She further advised the adults to take deworming tablets twice a year.

The programme was chaired by ADC of Dimapur, Mhalo Humtsoe, wherein representatives from Social Welfare and Education departments, civil societies and staff under CMO’s office attended the meeting.
