DIMAPUR — The Dimapur District Congress Committee (DCC) observed the first anniversary of Bharat Jodo Yatra at Dimapur Congress Bhavan on Thursday to show its solidarity with Rahul Gandhi.

President of DCC, Kutoho Chishi reminded that the Congress leader covered 4,081 km across 12 states and union territories in 136 days during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which was initiated a year ago.

Former minority chairman Rajesh Sethi reiterated the motive of the yatra, saying that it was organised to fight communalism and unite the people from disharmony created by the present ruling government.

He also expressed confidence that the grand old party will come to power in the next Lok Sabha election supposed to be held in 2024.

Chairman of minority department Javed Sarwar, said that ‘the Bharat Jodo Yatra is not only about unifying but also to identify who we are and how we are’. He said that there is hatred among the people and are struggling for their identity in so many ways, after the 2014 general election.

Political rights of the people have been suppressed, he said, adding that the yatra was also focusing on the rights of education, job and employment.

W Akum, vice president of NPCC, shared that the second phase of Bharat Jodo Yatra is likely to happen and the NPCC has already approached the party leaders to visit Nagaland as well. We are awaiting response on this, he added.

Through the yatra, Rahul Gandhi popularised the party across the country besides interacting with all sections of the society, he said, adding that Nagas also should know the meaning and intention of the yatra.

Spokesperson of the party, Thomas also said that the yatra was a very important journey initiated to bring change in the country.

Inspired by the Bharat Jodo Yatra, many people from other political parties also expressed interest in joining the Congress, he added.
