Dimapur DDMA conducts mock drill

DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx), a statewide mega mock drill on earthquake disaster, in Dimapur was carried out at multiple locations in Dimapur, simulating an earthquake disaster scenario.

One of the sites was Dimapur Government College, where a search operation was staged for missing students in a building that suffered structural damage due to an earthquake.

The mock drill was also conducted at Pantaloon Shopping Complex, GHSS Lingrijan School and Primary Health Centre in Duncan, simulating various scenarios such as structural damage, missing customers, building collapse and evacuation of patients from the health centre.

At the Forest Residential Area and Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Dimapur Depot at Kevijau Colony, a mock drill was conducted simulating a fire outbreak focusing on the evacuation of residents, workers and the rescue of injured persons.

The exercise was carried out to raise awareness among communities and various agencies on establishing effective response mechanisms for any disasters, particularly earthquakes as Nagaland is located in seismic zone V.

During an interaction with the media persons, Zakabo V Rotokha, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Dimapur, stated that it is a state-level preparedness exercise, which is very important to ensure that all agencies involved in disaster management are well-equipped to handle any eventuality.

He mentioned it is an annual exercise mandated by the state government, aimed at raising public awareness and expressed satisfaction with the cooperation extended by all stakeholders, including various departments, students, NCC cadets and colony councils.
