Dimapur, Oct. 6 (EMN): Minister of Public Health Engineering (PHED), Jacob Zhimomi has said that the issue pertaining to shifting of Dimapur DC office has been “laid to rest” after he assured the civil society organisations that the DC headquarters would be at Dimapur.

The minister met with the members of ‘Civil Society Organisations’ Core Committee against shifting of DC Office Dimapur’ at his residence on Wednesday to discuss the issue.

Several civil society organisations had earlier called for closure of shops in Dimapur to protest the Home department’s order for ‘shifting of branches/cells to new Deputy Commissioner’s Office Complex, Chümoukedima’, before a core committee was formed to pursue the matter and a public rally was held on Tuesday.

The core committee informed through a press release on Wednesday that it had expressed its discontentment on the lackadaisical attitude of the government and reaffirmed its stand not to allow the shifting of the DC office “to elsewhere in any manner” during the meeting with Zhimomi. It reiterated its demand and ultimatum “were not made against particular community or place”.

While acknowledging the assurance given by the minister that ‘the DC office was never intended to be shifted nor shall be shifted anywhere from the present location’, the committee said that its protest would “continue indefinitely” till the “government respond or notify the CSO Core Committee” in writing.
