DIMAPUR — Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Sachin Jaiswal, launched the website of the “Leaving No One Behind” project, an initiative led by the National Foundation for India (NFI), on Monday.

It was organised by NFI and co-funded by the European Union, hosted by CAN Youth at Hotel Saramati Dimapur.

Addressing the gathering, Jaiswal shared his observation that although people often come across the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through various media channels such as, social media and newspapers, there is still much progress to be made in terms of achieving the SDGs within the state of Nagaland.

Jaiswal mentioned that there are 17 SDGs to achieve, adding that the SDGs are not kept in isolation.

The DC pointed out that the goal of eradicating poverty in all its forms everywhere by 2030 requires generating self-employment opportunities, adding that partners like CAN Youth can play a valuable role in this process by mobilising people and offering skill development training.

He added that the cumulative efforts and initiatives discussed contribute to the overall achievement of the SDGs. In the context of gender equality, Jaiswal noted that Nagaland is still in the process of embracing modern political structures and to advance gender equality, it is important for women to step forward and assume leadership roles, particularly in inclusive decision-making processes.

Jaiswal mentioned that there are many government schemes for the uplift of the poor and all the stakeholders have to come together and spread the awareness to the people to achieve the 17 SDG’s in totality.

While delivering a message, Board member of CAN Youth Kilentola Jamir, said people in general were ignorant about the SDGs and CAN Youth is trying to play a small role towards achieving the goals.

Jamir urged the government, village councils, student unions, and others to support the CAN Youth mission not just in words but also in actions.

At the launching programme, Dimapur Field Coordinator of NFI Katini Eshena, said that the project was launched in Assam, Manipur, Nagaland in 2020 and the primary objective is to foster civil society and engage the youth in order to create models of participation and inclusive development at the grassroots level.

Eshena added that the intervention logic of the “Leave No One Behind” project entails equipping youth leaders with the necessary skills and knowledge about the SDGs framework.

Once their capacity is enhanced, they will actively participate in various local, district, and state councils, as well as engage with other stakeholders. The overarching aim is to promote inclusiveness and foster participation in these forums. By leveraging their involvement, the project seeks to uphold the principles of inclusivity, ensuring that no individual or group is left behind in the pursuit of sustainable development.
