Dimapur DC issues guidelines on fireworks use ahead of festive season
DIMAPUR — In accordance with the latest order issued by the Supreme Court of India, Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur Dr. Tinojongshi Chang has issued directives regarding the use of fireworks and designated timeframes for its use in Dimapur.
In the order issued on Friday, the DC notified that only crackers with reduced emission (improved crackers) and green crackers would be permitted to be sold through licensed traders.
During festive occasions such as Diwali, Gurupurab, and others that are traditionally associated with fireworks, the usage of firecrackers will be permitted strictly until 10 pm. On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, the bursting of firecrackers is allowed only between 11:55 pm and 12:30 am, read the order.
The directive also said that bursting of firecrackers is prohibited at designated silence zones, defined as areas located at a minimum distance of 100 metres from hospitals, nursing homes, primary and district health centres, educational institutions, courts, and religious establishments.
Further, the notification highlighted the prohibition in the manufacturing, sale, and use of connected firecrackers, such as series crackers or laris, due to its significant contribution to air, noise and solid waste issues. This restriction also extends to fireworks containing barium salts.
Along with this, it prohibited the manufacture, sale, and usage of firecrackers that produce noise levels exceeding 125 dB (AI) or 145 dB (C) peak at a distance of 4 meters from the point of bursting.
Though there is no total ban on use of firecrackers, as per the Supreme Court directives, it advised the public to refrain from bursting them or keep the usage to a minimum. It also cautioned that anyone found violating the directives would be penalised under relevant sections of the law.
