DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Commissioner of Police (CP) on Wednesday issued an advisory regarding the use of fireworks and designated timeframes for its use in Dimapur on Christmas Eve (Dec. 24) and New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31).

In the advisory, CP Kevithuto Sophie stated that the use of fireworks is strictly limited to Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, and allowed from 11:55 pm to 12:30 am only.

During this time, only Reduced Emission firecrackers and Green crackers, as approved by the Petroleum and Explosive Safety Organisation (PESO), are permitted and the sales must be through licensed traders, the advisory stated.

“It shall be ensured that no fireworks shall be burst in silence zones, that is, an area 100 metres away from hospitals, nursing homes, primary and district health-care centres, educational institutions, courts, religious places or any other area that may be declared as a silence zone by the authorities concerned,” it added.

Further, the CP informed that manufacture, sales, and use of specific firecrackers, including those with certain chemical compositions and noise levels, are strictly prohibited.

Violators will face penalties according to the law, the CP stated while reiterating the ongoing ban on fireworks. The CP appealed the citizens to be responsible and desist from the use of firecrackers as it is not only environmentally hazardous but can also cause significant stress, fear and other health related issues in animals and humans.
