DIMAPUR — Alleging that several recently constructed and repaired roads in Dimapur and neighbouring Niuland have deteriorated within a short period, the Dimapur District Congress Committee (DDCC) has demanded urgent repairs and a thorough inquiry into the quality of construction and utilisation of public funds.
In a press release issued on Saturday, the DDCC expressed serious concern over the poor condition of key road stretches, stating that the deteriorating infrastructure has caused immense hardship to commuters, students, office-goers, business establishments and the general public.
The committee particularly highlighted the road from Purana Bazaar to Supermarket (Naga Shopping Arcade), claiming that despite being repaired and developed only recently, it has already become riddled with potholes, uneven surfaces and damaged sections. It stated that the rapid deterioration of the road raises serious questions over the quality of workmanship and the proper utilisation of public funds.
The DDCC also drew attention to the road leading to the new deputy commissioner's office at Purana Bazaar, describing it as being in a deplorable condition despite serving as an important administrative route used daily by government officials and members of the public.

It further pointed to the recently constructed Niuland Road, alleging that the road has already developed numerous potholes and damaged stretches, making travel unsafe and uncomfortable.
According to the committee, the premature deterioration of the road warrants an immediate inspection and corrective measures by the departments and agencies concerned.
The DDCC appealed to the Public Works department and the district administration to urgently undertake repair and restoration works on the affected roads. It also called for a comprehensive assessment of the quality of construction and accountability of contractors wherever substandard work is found.
Stating that the people of Dimapur and Niuland deserve safe, durable and quality road infrastructure, the committee urged the government to take immediate action and address the issues without further delay in the larger public interest.
