Dimapur, May 1 (EMN): Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dimapur, Dr. K Vikato Kinimi has informed that has come to the notice of the CMO office that, there are many defaulting food business operators in Dimapur district, who are manufacturing or packaging, storing and selling food articles including packaged drinking water of 10/20 litres jars without FSSAI and ISI / BIS certification numbers.
CMO has reminded that Food Safety and Standard Act 2006 prohibited selling of any food articles to consumers without manufacturing date / best before date, expiry date, net quantity (weight/volume), vegatable and non-vegetable logo, FSSAI, BIS number, manufacturers detailed address, etc. in their respective package labels. Defaulters are punishable with fine upto INR two lakh with prohibition order of selling such food articles.
Consumers are therefore, requested not to purchase any food articles which does not have proper label (misbranded food).
In case of complaint related to food safety, one may submit a written complaint to the designated officer of Food Safety, Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur, for further necessary action in the interest of public / consumers.
