Dimapur businesses given till September 30 to ditch single-use plastics
Exemption for govt. vehicles from parking tax
DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) is cracking down on businesses continuing to use and sell single-use plastics (SUP), despite a government ban in effect since August 1.
Following a grace period to clear out existing stock, businesses face potential legal action if they do not comply by September 30.
In a notification issued on Friday, the DMC expressed concern over the widespread non-compliance with a July 10 notification from the Nagaland Urban Development Department that banned SUPs effective Aug. 1.
“In this connection, time is given to all the business establishments/commercial institutions/traders/dealers till 30th September, 2024 to dispose of their respective old stocks, if any, and on expiry of the stipulated period as given above, necessary checking will be conducted and defaulter/defaulters shall be penalised as per provision of law”, the DMC notification stated.
To ease the transition, the DMC is working to introduce biodegradable and eco-friendly bags as alternatives to SUPs, it said.
Hourly parking fees
Meanwhile, in a separate notification, the DMC informed that parking fees would be collected from private vehicles “on hourly basis in lieu of location basis.”
“However all government vehicles are exempted from paying of parking fees”, it said.
Further, it directed all collectors to register the vehicle number and parking timing appropriately.
