Dimapur, Aug. 8 (EMN): In light of several instances of inappropriate and unauthorised activities of certain individuals pertaining to members of the bar, the Dimapur Bar Association (DBA) has urged those members to desist from such activities, while it also sensitised the public on some common misconceptions.
Having learned that some individuals, in the capacity of notary public, are issuing marriage certificates which are inappropriate and illegal, the association urged the public to obtain the same from designated marriage officers. The association’s president, Imti Imsong, and the general secretary, Hukavi Zhimomi, informed that notary public have no authority or power to issue marriage certificates.
Also having learned that some advocates/ members of the bar are indulging in money lending activities and real estate businesses as agents, brokers etc., the association cautioned that any member of the bar indulging in any such inappropriate activities would be doing so at their own risk and liable to be disbanded from the bar.
The association also expressed displeasure on misuse of the advocates logo and stickers, which are exclusively to be used by bona fide advocates and members of the bar. It added that the advocate car stickers should be used exclusively by the advocates for official court duties.
It further stated that any individual using the advocate stickers for any other purposes and/ or using the same in commercial vehicles, unofficial family cars, transport vehicles etc. other than by the bona fide advocate and members of the bar is illegal.
