Dimapur administration nets INR 13, 500 fine for not wearing face mask
Dimapur, June 24 (EMN): Dimapur district administration has penalised 135 people with INR 100 as fine for not wearing face mask in public places and collected a total amount of INR 13, 500 within two days, according to a DIPR report.
The collected amount will be deposited in the state government’s treasury, Deputy Commissioner Anoop Khinchi said.
Even after repeated orders and announcements being made, many people do not follow the guidelines, therefore, a fine of INR 100 is being imposed, he said, adding that the names and addresses of violators are recorded, so that sterner action as per Disaster Management Act would be initiated against them if they continue to flaunt the guidelines.
He further reminded the people to maintain social distancing and ensuring proper hand hygiene to stay away from the novel coronavirus.
It may be mentioned that, wearing of face mask has been made mandatory in Dimapur. In order to create awareness amongst the public, Dimapur district administration in co-ordination with DPRO has been making announcements throughout Dimapur since April, through public address system.
The announcement is being carried out till date reminding the masses of wearing masks, which is one of the golden rule for fighting Covid-19, it informed.
“Citizens have been very responsive and co-operative. More than 90% of the people are seen wearing masks. However, as per the reports, there are some people including highly educated ones and shopkeepers who still take it casually and do not wear masks while going in public places posing threat to oneself and the society at large. Some people just hang the masks in their ears, neck or keep in the vehicle which does not serve the purpose,” it stated.
