Dimapur, Sep. 21: The Public Action Committee (PAC) has claimed that the price of a truckload of sand has been reduced to INR 4000 after the monitoring of check gates by the committee.

Addressing media persons on Saturday at the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) office to update on the 6th day of monitoring, the committee said the deputy commissioner of Dimapur, through a representation, has been given one week to streamline market prices.

Failure to do so would force the PAC to impose an indefinite bandh in the commercial hub, it warned.

According to the PAC, ‘it was confirmed through transporters’ union that for a six-wheeler and above INR 15,000 to INR 52,000 per trip was being charged, depending on the number of wheels.’

Also, the committee asserted that the reduction of market price will depend on the “honesty of truckers, syndicates, suppliers, wholesalers, transporters and agencies.”

The PAC’s initiative of monitoring of check gates concluded on Saturday and the committee members said their ‘greatest achievement from this exercise would be public awareness.’

It was an ‘eye-opener’ even for the district administration, they maintained.

The PAC has extended gratitude to the volunteers, tribe hohos, frontal organisations, district administration and police personnel.

The committee has also acknowledged the donors and contributors, both in cash and kind towards the movement.
