Dimapur, Oct. 3 (EMN): Following the formation of a district-level price monitoring committee on October 1, the Dimapur district administration has appealed to the Public Action Committee (PAC) to call off its proposed agitation.

Citing inaction by the administration, the PAC had earlier called for an indefinite bandh in Dimpaur from October 7.

The office of the deputy commissioner of Dimapur issued a press release on Thursday informing that the newly formed committee conducted a meeting on October 3 “to discuss mechanism relating to monitor and control of prices of essential commodities in the district”.

The committee, it informed, decided to form a sub-committee headed by SDO (C) Sadar and the following as members: assistant commissioner of police (Special Branch); assistant director of Food and Civil Supplies; DMC inspector; veterinary surgeon; and a representative of the DCCI.

“The sub-committee shall survey and collect existing market rate and shall submit report within two weeks. The deputy commissioner also had separate meeting with the members of Public Action Committee (PAC) and briefed them regarding the step taken by the district level price monitoring committee and requested them to call off their proposed bandh,” it stated.

According to the October 1 order, the deputy commissioner had tasked the price monitoring committee with evolving effective mechanisms at the district level to monitor and control prices of essential commodities; fixing prices of all essential commodities periodically, allowing rational trade and transport margin and monitor price movement judiciously; maintaining strict vigil on unscrupulous traders, and devise ways and means to contain trade malpractices; and keeping the state-level price monitoring committee informed about local market situations and market economy.
